Human Resources Generalist
LHH is currently assisting a mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a hands-on Human Resources Generalist to support day to day HR operations for a large, statewide employee population. This role, offers the opportunity to build structure, improve processes, and directly influence core HR service delivery.
This individual will partner with HR leadership and cross-functional team members to provide support in benefits, leave administration, employee relations, compliance, reporting, and general HR operational needs.
Work Environment
Hybrid: 2 days onsite weekly
No travel required
Organization employs a highly regulated, bilingual workforce (Spanish-speaking exposure a plus)
Must-Have Qualifications
2-4+ years of HR Generalist experience (California experience required)
Strong working knowledge of California labor law
Experience supporting large employee populations (500+)
Hands-on experience managing:
Benefits & leave administration
Employee relations and HR inquiries
Audits, compliance, and reporting
Experience in nonprofit or highly regulated environments preferred
Understanding of payroll (not processing)
Experience with HRIS/HCM platforms; familiarity with UKG a plus
Resume stability (ideally 3+ years across 12 employers; no long-term contract-only backgrounds)
Ability to work onsite 2 days per week in South San Francisco
Spanish language skills or experience supporting bilingual teams is a plus
Key Responsibilities- Benefits & Leave Administration
Support day-to-day administration of leaves (CFRA, PDL, FMLA, PWFA, etc.)
Collaborate with managers on accommodations (FEHA/ADA)
Follow up with employees regarding leave status, benefits, premiums, and related inquiries
Provide guidance on wage replacement programs
Support open enrollment and new hire benefits onboarding
Serve as backup for Benefits/Leave Specialists
Employee Experience & Relations
Respond to employee questions and resolve HR inquiries
Facilitate new hire orientations twice monthly
Support exit interviews and trend analysis
Assist with engagement and wellness initiatives
HR Operations & Projects
Assist with job description updates
Support compliance and process-improvement projects
Generate HR reports (headcount, turnover, metrics)
Assist with audits and broader department initiatives
Technology
Currently using Kronos / Pay Entry
Transitioning to UKG
Education
Bachelor's degree preferred
HR certifications (PHR/SPHR) a plus, not required
Pay Range: $85,000-$90,000 annually
