About the Company
A well-established manufacturer in the packaging industry is seeking a Master Mechanic to lead the hands-on maintenance, repair, and optimization of mechanical systems across mill and converting operations. This facility operates with a focus on safety, continuous improvement, and equipment reliability.
About the Role
In this role, you'll work directly with heavy equipment, rotating machinery, and high-speed converting lines to keep production running at peak performance. You'll troubleshoot complex mechanical systems, perform precision maintenance, and collaborate across maintenance and engineering teams to drive uptime and efficiency.
What You’ll Do:
Mechanical Troubleshooting & Repair
Maintain and repair rotating machinery, conveyors, gearboxes, refiners, pumps, dryers, and packaging systems
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions to prevent downtime
Conduct welding, fabrication, and precision alignment on mechanical systems
Converting Equipment Optimization
Troubleshoot and fine-tune equipment such as slitters, embossers, folders, and rewinders
Support mechanical integration of automation and control systems
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
Execute PM and PdM programs using vibration analysis, thermography, and oil sampling
Utilize CMMS to log work orders, inspections, and equipment history
Assist with major shutdowns and overhauls
Safety, Standards & Leadership
Follow all OSHA, NFPA, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) safety procedures
Document maintenance work and update mechanical drawings
Mentor junior mechanics on technical troubleshooting and safety best practices
What We’re Looking For:
5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in a pulp/paper mill, converting plant, or heavy industrial setting
Strong working knowledge of pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, steam systems, and rotating equipment
Proficiency in blueprint reading, mechanical drawings, and precision alignment
Skilled in welding, machining, and fabricating parts
Journeyman or Master Mechanic certification preferred
Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment is a plus
Pay Details: $58,000.00 to $68,000.00 per year
