A well-established mechanical contractor specializing in commercial HVAC, plumbing, and process piping systems throughout Northern California. Known for delivering high-quality service and support across a wide range of commercial and institutional clients.



Position Overview:

We’re seeking an experienced Service Estimator with a strong HVAC background to support our growing service team. This role is ideal for a seasoned technician looking to transition into an office-based estimating position. The successful candidate must have the ability to conceptualize bids without software and provide accurate estimates for maintenance, repairs, and small projects.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Estimate labor, materials, and subcontractor needs for service repairs, replacements, and preventive maintenance


  • Perform site walks, gather information, and develop scope of work


  • Compose proposals, clarify scopes, and manage project documentation


  • Collaborate with field teams, vendors, and service coordinators to execute bids and schedules


  • Support and mentor junior staff as needed


  • Maintain and grow customer relationships


  • Manage and organize job folders, vendor quotes, submittals, and bid calendars



Requirements:



  • Minimum 10 years of HVAC field experience (plumbing experience a plus)


  • Strong knowledge of service repairs, boiler/chiller replacements, and commercial systems


  • Familiarity with conceptual bidding (no estimating software used)


  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and scopes of work


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)


  • Excellent communication and organizational skills


  • Degree, trade school certification, or equivalent experience preferred



Ideal Candidate Profile:



  • Practical, hands-on field experience with a desire to move into an office role


  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities


  • Able to work independently and communicate effectively with field and office teams
