Job Title: Desktop Engineer I (6-Month Contract)
Location: Portland, OR (Onsite)
Duration: 6 months (with potential to extend)
Employment Type: Contract (W2 through LHH)
Citizenship Requirement: U.S. citizenship required
We are currently seeking a Desktop Engineer I to join our client’s IT team in Portland, Oregon on a 6-month contract, with potential to extend. This position is onsite and will support critical SCCM, desktop imaging, and software deployment initiatives. The selected candidate will help offload work from a senior Desktop Engineer, allowing them to focus on strategic upgrades and migrations.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer and support Microsoft SCCM (Current Branch) for software deployment, OS imaging, patch management, and application whitelisting.
Create and manage task sequences and driver packages for Windows 10 deployments.
Plan, test, and support software installations, OS patches, and security updates.
Monitor and respond to SCCM alerts and incidents using ServiceNow and Jira.
Maintain and troubleshoot SCCM environment, including RBAC roles and disaster recovery plans.
Serve as Tier 2/3 escalation for issues related to SCCM, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
Lead software deployment and uplift projects as directed by the Service Desk Manager.
Collaborate with IT and Security teams to troubleshoot and resolve internal user issues.
Provide guidance and occasional training to Desktop Support staff as needed.
Preferred Experience:
2+ years managing/maintaining SCCM environments in enterprise settings.
Experience packaging, deploying, and maintaining desktop software using AD, Group Policy, and scripting tools.
Hands-on experience with large-scale patch management, OS updates, and desktop support.
Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, VBScript, MS Batch).
Experience supporting Windows 10–11 and legacy Microsoft Office to Microsoft 365 migrations (preferred, not essential).
Familiarity with networking fundamentals including DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.
Experience with mobile devices, printers, imaging tools, and hardware troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of IT experience in enterprise Windows environments.
2+ years of experience in SCCM software packaging and deployment.
Undergraduate degree in a computer-related field or equivalent experience.
Soft Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple technical support tasks.
Comfortable documenting processes, procedures, and writing user-facing knowledge base content.
Calm, solutions-oriented troubleshooting approach.
Work Environment:
This position requires onsite work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Candidates must be comfortable moving between office and production areas and should be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Occasional local and out-of-town travel (up to 5%) may be required.
