Job Title: HR Generalist
Location: Onsite – Lafayette, CA
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $87,000 – $100,000 annually

Overview:

Seeking a proactive and detail-oriented HR Generalist to manage daily HR operations for 450+ employees across 100 retail sites. This role supports the HR Director, leads junior HR staff, and handles payroll, compliance, recruitment, and employee relations. Ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and excels in Excel and reporting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll: Process bi-weekly payroll, maintain records, resolve inquiries, track PTO/sick leave, and ensure compliance with wage laws.

  • Workers’ Compensation: Manage claims, coordinate with providers, maintain OSHA compliance, and support return-to-work programs.

  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Source, interview, and hire candidates; conduct background checks; implement orientation.

  • HR Program Administration: Support compensation, benefits, leave, performance, safety, and training programs.

  • Employee Relations: Handle inquiries, disciplinary actions, investigations, and maintain confidentiality.

  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to employment laws (including CA-specific laws), update policies, and recommend best practices.

  • Reporting & Analysis: Use advanced Excel to analyze HR metrics and create reports for strategic planning.

  • Mentorship: Guide and support junior HR staff.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field.

  • 5+ years of HR Generalist experience preferred.

  • SHRM-CP certification is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of CA employment laws (CFRA, PFL, wage/hour).

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros).

  • Experience with HRIS systems; ADP Workforce Now preferred.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage ambiguity.
