Location: Queens, NY

Salary Range: $60,000 - $100,000 (depending on years of experience)

Position Overview

LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking an enthusiastic and detail oriented Junior Estimator or Estimator (depending on years of experience) to support the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive pricing for mechanical/HVAC construction projects. This role is ideal for individuals with 1-5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, construction, HVAC, or engineering. This is a high-growth opportunity offering hands on mentorship and exposure to major NYC projects.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Pre-Construction Support

• Assist in reviewing drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop mechanical/HVAC cost estimates.

• Perform quantity takeoffs for piping, ductwork, HVAC equipment, and related mechanical systems.

• Gather pricing for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted work.

• Support preparation of budget estimates at conceptual, schematic, and detailed stages.

• Help compile competitive bid proposals and supporting documents.

Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination

• Solicit pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.

• Evaluate incoming quotes for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scope.

• Build and maintain vendor/subcontractor relationships.

Documentation & Analysis

• Maintain organized estimating files, historical pricing data, and cost databases.

• Assist with value engineering reviews to identify cost saving opportunities.

• Help analyze labor productivity, market pricing trends, and material fluctuations.

Collaboration & Learning

• Work closely with senior estimators, project managers, engineers, and field operations.

• Participate in internal project turnover meetings and handoff processes.

• Gain exposure to installation sequencing, constructability reviews, and site conditions.

Required Qualifications

• 1-5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, HVAC contracting, construction, or related technical work.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documents.

• Familiarity with HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, and major equipment.

• Strong analytical and math skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

• Proficiency with MS Office; exposure to Bluebeam, estimating software, or AutoCAD is a plus.

• Strong communication skills and willingness to learn from senior team members.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.

• Experience working with estimating tools such as Trimble/QuickPen, QuoteSoft, or similar.

• Exposure to union environments (Local 638 or similar) is beneficial but not required.
