Role Purpose

Our client in Essex County is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager. In this position, you will provide continuity of safety leadership during a temporary leave period, ensuring all safety programs, controls, and initiatives continue without disruption. This role requires an experienced, hands-on safety professional who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, unionized terminal environment. The Safety Manager will maintain momentum on critical safety initiatives, conduct investigations, collaborate with key stakeholders across functions, and support daily site operations with a strong presence both indoors and outdoors.

Key Accountabilities

· They regularly inspect facilities, identify hazards, and evaluate risks to prevent incidents.

· Conduct daily safety meetings

· Following any incident or near-miss, conduct full investigation, identify room cause, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with other departments.

· EHS managers maintain incident logs, inspection records, permits, and compliance reports.

· Manage requisitions and supply of PPE.

· Ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures for vendors and visitors at the site.

· Work with leadership and employees to embed a proactive, engaged safety culture across the organization.

Key Skills & Experience Required

· 5+ years of experience in health and safety with a proven track record in the delivery of business objectives

· Bachelor’s degree in health and safety discipline, or equivalent

· OSHA 30 Certification

· Strong background in operational safety within a dynamic, high-risk environment.

· Proven success working effectively within a unionized workforce

· Experience in a terminal or construction environment preferred, or high-volume manufacturing or warehouse environment

· Ability to juggle multiple priorities and deliver outcomes with minimal oversight.

· Strong communication skills and credibility with both frontline teams and senior leadership.

· Must be able to spend extended time outdoors as part of daily responsibilities.

Benefit offerings for full-time employment include 10 paid Holidays, and 10 PTO days, prorated based on hire date within the calendar year. Also included: Medical, dental, vision, term life and AD&D insurance, long-term disability, employee assistance program, onsite gym, and a 401k plan.
