The Transportation Supervisor will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the transportation department, ensuring that all deliveries are made on time, in compliance with safety standards, and within budget. This position requires strong leadership and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to monitor and optimize transportation performance. You will work closely with drivers, dispatchers, and management to ensure the efficient operation of the fleet and resolve any logistical challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the transportation department, including managing a team of drivers and supporting staff.
- Ensure that all shipments are delivered on time, safely, and in compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Monitor the performance of drivers and provide feedback and guidance to improve safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Manage the scheduling of drivers, ensuring proper staffing levels and optimal route planning to meet delivery deadlines.
- Oversee the maintenance of company vehicles, ensuring regular inspections, safety checks, and compliance with DOT regulations.
- Ensure that all transportation activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety, DOT, and environmental laws.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, reduce transportation costs, and enhance overall service quality.
- Resolve transportation-related issues or delays, escalating as necessary to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
- Maintain accurate records of driver performance, vehicle maintenance, and transportation-related documentation.
- Collaborate with the logistics and customer service teams to address any customer concerns and improve service delivery.
- Assist with recruiting, training, and onboarding new drivers and other staff as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, or business management is a plus).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation or logistics, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of transportation operations, DOT regulations, and safety standards.
- Experience with fleet management, route planning, and driver scheduling.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and transportation management software (TMS) or equivalent.
- CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is a plus but not required.
