My client offers a hybrid working arrangement. With an expectation that staff will be in the office a couple of times per month.
Following the appointment of a new senior leadership team in Finance we are expanding and adapting to create a supportive team that anticipates and collaboratively solves problems, helping us deliver an ambitious programme that reaches across all areas of local authority operation and interest.
The Corporate Accountant will report to the Deputy Chief Accountant and will support on a range of areas within Corporate Accountancy team as well as the closure of accounts -
- Supporting on specific financial accounting areas such as Fixed Assets, Finance Systems, Balance Sheet Reconciliations & Monitoring including support on closure of accounts, reviewing and challenging financial controls and associated processes, and providing financial guidance and support to services across the Council.
- Taking ownership of specific finance processes to ensure all officers are appropriately trained able to carry out these processes in a consistent and efficient manner.
- Ensure that the areas of the Accounts for which the officer is responsible for is accounted for in line with Internal Financing Reporting Standards and CIPFA's Code of Practice for Local Government Accounting.
- Pro-Actively seek opportunities to improve the financial support the service provides to the Council.
To be suitable for the role you need to have a CCAB or CIMA accountancy qualification or must be finalist for such a qualification with a high level of finance systems and accounting skills. You must possess excellent communication skills and an exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
Any local government Corporate Accountancy experience is highly welcomed.

Essential Criteria-
- A CCAB or CIMA accountancy qualification, or part qualified and actively studying for such a qualification.
- An understanding / experience of local government regulations
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of local government finance, budgeting and accounting, and experience in providing high level advice, support and challenge on a variety of complex financial and service issues
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills, including the ability to analyse and interpret detailed and complex financial and other information, to develop and use financial management systems and to have the confidence and ability to train and develop others in the use and application of such systems
- Experience of providing financial advice and support to senior officers, members and external stakeholders
- Good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present a range of complex and detailed financial and other issues to a diverse audience including councillors and senior officers and to develop and manage productive relationships with both external and internal contacts and agencies.
- Advanced IT skills in particular excel, PowerPoint and word, including the ability to design, construct and interpret complex spreadsheets. Extensive experience of working with integrated financial systems in a large organisation
- High level of financial accounting knowledge
